Thinking outside the box–a cliché now–but how often do people actually step outside their boxes to solve problems? Earlier in my career, I helped craft a marketing campaign emphasizing a client’s fast turnaround time using subway ads. For perspective, we left our offices and went to the subway to examine the colors, lighting, and hustle-bustle of commuters. The answer: snails! The ads featured a snail race with the headline “How fast do your vendors move?” It worked and the client was overwhelmed with new calls.
