Plain Language Bill passes in the House...Now
on to the Senate
What
is the Plain Language Bill?
Plain Language in Government Communications Act of 2007 (S.
2291) is a bill intended to "establish plain language
as the standard style for Government douments issued to the
public..."
How
you benefit from a Plain Language Law?
Let's face it, government communication is not always
known for its clarity. Though we know many organizations who
are already committed to changing that, if passed, the Plain
Language Bill would require government agencies to
use plain language in its communication to the public. Also,
if passed and signed into law, government communication to
you (the citizen) would be easier to understand.
Because of plain language's clearer, more simplified, nature,
this law could save everyone money, and utlimately, time:
less "gobblygook" = easier to understand government
= fewer phone calls = less paper = postage savings = happier
everyone!
How
can you help?
Call or write your Senator to encourage their help
in bringing this bill to the Senate floor.
